CaSB 041: Let Andrew Lock help your business

Welcome to episode 41 of CASB.  The podcast for entrepreneurs and personal development.  I strive to provide inspiration to help you succeed in life and in business.  One of the keypoints I emphasize in this Podcast is that you need to start your online business yesterday.

Today I want to  talk about one of my favorite Podcasts.  This is something I’ve said from the beginning that I love to share with you the things that are impacting me.  In this case a video Podcast.

It’s one of the shows that slowly turned me on to pursuing Podcasting and content creation.  It’s called “Help my Business

Read description from his website

“Help My Business!” is a free, weekly web TV show that helps entrepreneurs and small business owners to build a better business and stand out from the crowd.

It’s been described as “The Daily Show for Entrepreneurs” which gives a flavor of what to expect: dry British humor, playful sarcasm, and irreverence, with a soft and chewy center of both entertainment and brilliant marketing insights.

Hosted by maverick marketer Andrew Lock, a.k.a. the “Yoda of Marketing” (not because he’s short with green pointy ears, but because of his encyclopedic knowledge of marketing), the show provides a proliferation of practical marketing tips, big business lessons from well known brands, and lots of little known online resources that small business owners can use to increase their profits fast. It’s become more popular than a supermodel at a Catholic boys boarding school. The show also features Chris Farrell and Luria Petrucci, as well as special guests.

His achievements

  • Within 6months his show was ranked #1 in iTunes
  • Has created trainings and events
  • Has produced his own courses and master mind groups
  • Teaches on how to earn money from video podcast and some of his students have become millionaires
  • Took two years off to travel the world

Why I like him

  • Everyone loves a success story
  • Rags to Riches.
  • Shows the amazing the opportunities to work creatively
  • He’s fun
  • He makes you believe that you can also achieve success within your field.

You can listen to his interview on EOfire.

That’s it for today and remember “In business and in life pursue your passion and great things will happen

I  believe blogging is an important part in the life of an online entrepreneur.  In this episode I want to share a few thoughts on why you should start a blog.

This text is is outline of my points.  Please listen to the Podcast for the full presentation.

  1. Encourages retrospection
    1. Look back to see what is meaningful to share

    3. Makes you think about other people because you’re not writing for yourself.
  2. It helps you not to forget to write new entries

    2. Puts you in control. You decide what to write, when to write and what to write about.
    3. You can add pictures, add links to a video, add a quote. Choices are endless.
  4. Gives you a presence in the digital world.
    1. I’ve heard it said “If you don’t have a website you’re nobody”
    2. Don’t think you’re you can remain completely anonymous.  There’s facebook among other sites where other people add your photos.
    3. Why not frame your identity the way you want to be viewed.
  5. Help you learn Internet technologies.

CaSB 037: Create your business in four to seven hours a day

Hi, welcome to episode number 37 of CaSB.  I am your host  Raf Calderon.  This is the podcast where I talk about entrepreneurship and personal development. My goal is to encourage you in life and to help you become aware of the opportunities that exist for you to create your own business online around the things you love.

This week has been great. Went to Lancaster county for a day trip. Visited the following:

  • Amish Village . museum
  • Sight and Sound theater: Samson
  • Katy’s Kitchen
  • Village Green’s Miniature Golf

Transition:

  • I’m Excited about what I’m going to share today. This is something that has potential to transform your life
  • In the past I’d be confused about work life balance.
  • But now I have clarity

Thesis:

You need to spend at least 4-7hrs a day growing your business, outside of your day jobs and family responsibilities.  (7-2 if you’re single 9-1 if you’re married and have kids)

May seem silly, but it is important. This is huge.  A big commitment. For me is like writing the line in the sand

Q1 How did I come to this conclusion

Answ1: Crush it

  •     Reading it in the book energized me
  •     I’ve done this before but now it has a whole new emphasis and drive
  •     I was so impacted that we reached the same time window.

Answ2: Maybe I feel the pressure more now that I’m older

  • I’m 42.  To some this may seem young to others old.
  • I don’t feel old but I have to be realistic in realize the stage of my life and I can
  • look back and see what has worked over the years.

Answ3: Pat Flynn

  • Pat would do his work at night.
  • Difference is that this was his full time job but no matter.
  • Point is he did stuff during the day and then he did more stuff at night

Answ4: It’s worked for me in the past and it’s working now

Q2: What are the dangers I need to be aware off

Answ1: Friends who say you’re they value more time with family, or when I come home I need to relax. That’s what the avg person does.

Answ2: Feeling out of touch with Pop-Culture.

  • Remember what Tim Ferris said in 4hr work week.
  • You’ll be able to find time for the important things: Go to soccer games,
  • Go to church services, go on vacations.
  • Do you need to watch TV shows, or news or

Answ2: Miracle Morning

  • I’m not going to be dogmatic about the time in the day that you chose.
  • Be driven make your own decisions. I don’t consider myself a night person but this is working for me now.
  • I’ve tried the morning and it doesn’t work because I can’t get up early consistently

CaSB 036: A manual for life

Hi, welcome to episode number 36 of CaSB.  I am your host  Raf Calderon.  This is the podcast where I talk about entrepreneurship and personal development. My goal is to encourage you in life and to help you become aware of the opportunities that exist for you to create your own business  around the things you love.

I wanna tell you what happened to me with my pool see if you can relate

What if we had a manual for our brains for that matter a manual for life?

We could’ve avoided

  1. Communism
  2. Injuries related to accidents without seat belts
  3. Scurvy
    1. Between 1500 and 1800, it has been estimated that scurvy killed at least two million sailors
    2. During the 18th century, disease killed more British sailors than enemy action
    3. The Royal Navy enlisted 184,899 sailors during the French Indian war of  1754. 133,000 died due to disease Scurvy being the leading cause
    4. It wasn’t till 1793 that the Royal navy began the formal practive of supplying lemon juice to fend off the disease and this was a bottom up request from the Admirals.

We do have not just one but thousands of manuals for our brain. They’re called books.

  • You can learn what others have gone through
  • You can learn how to work your brain and what makes people work
  • You can learn what technologies or jobs pay the best salaries.
  • You can learn that building your own business is the best way to find success

It only works if you open the manual and read it.  Don’t be like me who let all the dirty water into the pool.

I hope you enjoyed today’s episode

Passion. What is passion

What is to work on what you like

Even Gary V talks about work on what you love

But then he had to give up baseball cards to work on his dad’s business

Serenity prayer.

There’s a list of things you wouldn’t do but then there’s a long list of things you would o

Bottom line is hard work. Work all the time.  It doesn’t feel like you need a vacation

Answer

  • Build something that you can control.  Communism vs Democracy
  • Work hard. No difference between vacation and work
  • Remember the serenity prayer
  • Be gratefull

CaSB 034: Crush it

Flying solo today.  Wanna tell you what I’ve been up this week.

I’m really pumped.  So excited about all the opportunities available in life.  “Amazing opportunities exist in every aspect of my life”.  Funny I feel like preaching.  My dad was a pastor.

Today I’m going to talk about

  1. Gary Vaynerchuk and Crush it
  2. How this book is impacting me
  3. Contrast this book to passive income message
  4. Starting a new podcast ASW linux Computing
  5. Talk about things I’ve done but there are exceptions
  1. Theme for today is Crush it, Why NOW Is the Time to Cash In on Your Passion
    1. This is the idea that has been floating in my mind recently9780061914171_p0_v3_s192x300
    2. Gary Vaynerchuk took family business from a 3 million business in 1998 to a $50 million business in 2005
    3. Retail wine store named Wine Library
    4. Video blog Wine Library TV, a daily internet webcast on the subject of wine
    5. VaynerMedia, the social media brand consulting agency he co-founded in the Spring of 2009
  2. How much Gary V is impacting me.  Three takeaways
    1. Passion. Approach your work with passion. Example of a guy that knows about worms
    2. Work on your business from 9-3
    3. Love family, work super hard, live your passion
  3. Contrast this message to the 4hr work week or Pat Flynn’s SPI
    1. 4hr – I got the message of learning
    2. SPI – work smart. Build a business
  4. I’m Starting a new podcast about cloud computing
    1. This is the direction my career is taking
    2. I’m working on getting the certifications
    3. How does this Tie with Crush it.
  5. My plan is to talk about the things I’ve done.
    1. I remember Pat Flynn sharing with his audience his desire to write a book
    2. But I also like sharing about things I’m pursuing. This helps to keep me accountable but it’s risky because what if I don’t follow through
    3. But every now then I’ll share my dreams
